Figure Drawing – Long Poses
Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
- Thursday, February 2nd to Thursday, May 25th, 2017
- Time: Thursdays from 17:00 – 19:00
- 16 lessons total with one break on April 13th (Easter).
- Cost: €25 per lesson and one-time registration fee of €50 OR €30 per lesson and no registration fee.
Model fee included / Materials not included: materials may be provided for an additional €5.
Please note: the registration fee guarantees your place at an easel for the duration of the course… with the understanding that you will be attending most if not all of the lessons. The registration fee is non-refundable.
Join us for two hours every Thursday for a life drawing session of ONE pose for two hours.
Recommended Materials
- Vine charcoal
- 60 x 80 cm sketch pad
- Kneaded eraser
- Clips
- Masking Tape
- Wet-wipes
OR
- Water-soluble graphite
- Rives BFK (or similar) paper
- Water brush
- White Gouache
- Eraser
You are also welcome to bring your own materials.
Fundamentals, Parts I and II: Drawing and Painting the Still-Life
Level: Beginner, Intermediate
- Saturday, February 4th to Saturday, May 27th, 2017
- Time: Saturdays from 11:00 – 14:00
- 16 lessons total, with one break on April 15th (Easter).
- Cost per lesson €35 with one-time registration fee of €50 OR €40 per lesson.

Back to the basics! It’s been several years since I’ve dedicated a good portion of a course to drawing only, so the time is right to do so again. The first 6 to 7 lessons will only focus on drawing, after which, we will switch to painting.
Using graphite as our medium, Part I – Drawing the Still-Life, will focus on:
- Composition
- Proportion Keys and Comparative Measuring
- Value – Light and Shade
- Texture
Part II – Painting the Still-Life, will focus on:
- Understanding the Materials of Oil Painting
- Blocking in a Composition
- Learning Strategies for Managing Light
- Measuring Color Hue, Value, Temperature and Intensity
Required Materials for Part I
- Graphite Pencils: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B
- Box Cutter Knife
- Tiepolo paper, 50 x 70
- Eraser
- Masking Tape
- Mini-eraser (optional)
Required Materials for Part II
- Wood Palette
- 1 Palette Knife
- Linseed oil
- Tintorsetto (this is a substitute for turpentine. Normal solvents are NOT ALLOWED in the studio.)
- Medium Cup or Jar
- Brushes:
- 3-4 Bull Hair (Sizes 6 to 10, Filbert)
- 3-4 Wide Short-Handle Hog Bristle (Sizes 0 to 3)
- 3-4 Synthetic Hair (Sizes 6 to 10, Various)
- 3-4 Small Sable (0, 1, 2, 4) or equivalent, if such exist.
- Oil Paint – Note: parenthesis ( ) indicate the brand I use. You are welcome to use a different brand.
- Titanium White or Warm White (Michael Harding)
- Ivory Black (Michael Harding)
- Yellow Ochre Light (Old Holland)
- Cobalt Blue (Old Holland)
- Ultramarine Blue (Old Holland)
- Alizarin Crimson (Michael Harding)
- Cadmium Red Scarlet (Old Holland)

There will be one model with the same pose lasting 4 to 5 lessons. The poses will vary from clothed to nude.
