Course Description:
We will focus on painting two portraits following an indirect painting process, each with a unique underpainting.
Other consideration:
- Understanding the why and how of materials used in oil painting
- Developing Composition
- Comprehending the structure of the head and proportional relationships needed to achieve a likeness
- Manipulating scumbles and glazes to manage atmosphere, volumes, and warm and cool temperature shifts.
Required Materials:
- Wood Palette
- 1 Palette Knife
- Linseed oil
- Tintorsetto (this is a substitute for turpentine. Normal solvents are NOT ALLOWED in the studio.)
- Medium Cup or Jar
- Brushes:
- 3-4 Bull Hair (Sizes 6 to 10, Filbert)
- 3-4 Wide Short-Handle Hog Bristle (Sizes 0 to 3)
- 3-4 Synthetic Hair (Sizes 6 to 10, Various)
- 3-4 Small Sable (0, 1, 2, 4)
- Paper Towels
- Wet Wipes
- Paint Rag (an old T-shirt or pair of socks works great)
- Linen Canvas. Recommended size: TBD.
