In sharp contrast to last semester’s measured attention to the English treatise, we’ll spend this semester focusing on the quick and fluid alla prima technique, i.e., painting a portrait in one sitting.  As such, we’ll have a new model each week.  To help manage cost, I recommend using a support either of wood panel or MDF board covered with LeFrance & Bourgeois acrylic gesso.  I’ll discuss this in greater detail the day of the first lesson.

We’ll continue with our study of folds and fabric… a painting on a grand scale (“go big, or go home.”)… and consider what it means to create an effective background around a figure.

So come join me with your brushes, paints, enthusiasm, tenacity and a large canvas.  (2 meters x 1.2 meters is recommended.  No guts, no glory.)

There will be one model for all 15 lessons.
