Many treatises on the practice of oil painting were published in England in the 19th century.  Thanks to the advent of the internet and the due diligence of Google, many of those are now available online.  I spent much of this past summer studying nearly a dozen of them and I am excited to bring the fruit of my research to you in the studio.

We will have one model for 9 of the 10 lessons.  During that series we’ll take two lessons to make one drawing, then copy that twice on canvas for a double-portrait (of the same drawing).  This will allow us to experiment with more than one technical process.

The first lesson will be without the model; we’ll review some of the treatises, examine and experiment with some of the colors and prepare the canvas.

We’ll continue with our study of folds and fabric… and a painting on a grand scale.  As we came to say in this past Spring, “go big, or go home.”

So come join me with your brushes, paints, enthusiasm, tenacity and a large canvas.  (2 meters x 1.2 meters is recommended.  No guts, no glory.)

There will be one model for all 10 lessons.  As in the Spring, the model Arianna will be with us.  Dress and decor will be a surprise.
